So what is the Confirmation Program here at Saint Helen’s?  It is a two year program that begins in 9th grade.  Let’s take a deeper look at the requirements for each year.

9th Grade is a dynamic combination of three (3) large group interactive experiences with leading edge technology and video based programs from Ascension Press and Dynamic Catholic  and three (3) intimate small group sessions with a team of Peer Ministers here at the parish center or in the warmth of their home.

All 9th grade students are encouraged to serve the community for eight (8) hours or more so they can build on the experiences they created during their middle school years.  All students and families are encouraged to attend our annual service fair on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 10 am to 1 pm in the gym.  Here local service agencies and in house ministries will gather and provide information on how our middle school students can support them, earn service hours and live out their faith.  All 9th grade students must attend a poverty workshop where we talk about poverty, our call as Catholics and serve a two hour shift at the Community Food Bank in Hillside, NJ.  Adult chaperones are needed for this day.

The highlight of the 9th grade year is our freshman retreat held on Saturday, November 18th or Sunday, November 19th.  In demand Catholic speaker and celebrity, Justin Fatica is our keynote speaker for the day.  He and his Hard As Nails Team in conjunction with witness talks from our peer ministers make for a once in a lifetime experience.  The retreat runs from 9 am to 9 pm.

We understand the demands of our busy teens and have designed a program that provides unique experiences that can be easily planned and integrated into their schedules.  All six sessions, the retreat and poverty workshop are required for the 9th grade year.

10th Grade Confirmation builds on the work of the 9th grade year.  There are three (3) large group sessions and two (2) small group sessions.  Parents are invited to attend and witness all three large group experiences.   The first is our parent candidate opening session where the program and requirements will be outlined for you.  Our second session will feature local potter Ray Boswell.  He will amaze you and touch your heart at the same time with his stories and prayerful manor.  We end the year together for adoration.  Our music ministry and parish priests will lead us in adoration.  It is a powerful way to enter into the sacrament.

10th grade offers an optional retreat for candidates that really want to take their faith to the next level.  Our retreat will be an overnight here at Saint Helen on the weekend of February 24-25, 2018.  This retreat is run excluslivy by our Youth Minister and team of peer ministers.

The cornerstone of the 10th grade year is the individual service project.  Each candidate must create a service project where they need to serve the community for a minimum of ten (10) hours and write a report describing their experiences and all the steps necessary for the project.

All three large group sessions, the two small group nights, and service project are required to be confirmed in the tenth grade year.  Attendance at all sessions is mandatory.
