Do You Reject Satan?
Best Spiritual Practice to reject Satan is receiving Reconciliation.

Your Workout Song ~ Never Too Far Gone ~ Jordan Feliz

Our Best Exercise Your Faith is to Strengthen Your Core.  Your core is the center of your body and soul, your body's powerhouse and strength here helps us prepare for Reconciliation by the exercise of Examining Our Conscience. This exam can help call to mind our failings, that we confess and make a new start on our faith journey. To begin, take some quiet time, ask for the Holy Spirit's help and prayerfully reflect on questions like these: Have I been disrespectful, unkind or untruthful to family, in the workplace? Have I been involved in gossip? Am I withholding forgiveness? For a complete Examination of Conscience please visit www.usccb.org or TheLightIsOnForYou.org.
Prayer Exercises for Strengthening Core ~ pray the Mary Undoer of Knots Novena (a Pope  Francis favorite). With a contrite heart that is sorry for wrongdoings, desires to make amends, and be in right relationship with God, infuse the very simple JESUS prayer - Lord Jesus, have mercy on me a sinner - into your daily prayer routine.

Building Spiritual Muscles = FAST ~ for Lent's first week, let's FAST from comparing ourselves  to others.

Shhh...  Hearing/Listening to God

Nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a bushel basket, but on the lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.  Matthew 5:15

"Resistance always wants the opposite of what God wants."
Who/what temptations keep you from fulfilling God's plan for you?
Fear, procrastination, selfishness, addiction, comparing yourself to others, allowing your critics to drain your energy and direct your life, an unwillingness to move beyond your comfort zone, self-doubt, gossip, negative relationships, worry, excuses and so many others.  God wants to fill you with his grace and courage so that you can go out into the world and let your light shine."  Matthew Kelly ~ Resisting Happiness

How do we listen to God's call/plan with our head and our hearts together?

"It was a moment of surrender.  That question changed my life.  I call it the big question. "God what do you think I should do?"  It's quite simple really.  The moment we open ourselves up to God's plan is the moment miracles begin to happen in our lives."  Matthew Kelly  ~ Resisting Happiness

Shhh...  Hearing/Listening to God

The Bible shows many examples of Jesus calling out to his followers and finding them receptive.  He asks, "What are you looking for by following me"?
God is not going to stop trying to find you receptive.
LISTENING requires focus, discipline and prayer.
How do you listen and respond to God?
Here I am, I come to do your will.   Hebrews 10:9

Sermon Sidebar # 3 YOLO SQUARED

YOLO stands for You Only Live Once.  The squared references that we actually live twice - on earth and in heaven.
These are some of the missed opportunities of people who wished they had lived their lives differently

~ I wish I'd had the courage to just be myself.
~ I wish I had spent more time with the people I love.
~ I wish I had learned to express my feelings more .
~ I wish I hadn't spent so much time worrying about things that never happened.
~ I wish I had cared less about what other people thought and their expectations.
~ I wish I had taken more risks.
~ I wish I hadn't spent so much time chasing the wrong things.
~ I wish I had lived more in the present moment.
~ I wish I had loved more.
~ I wish I had realized happiness is a choice.

In Resisting Happiness, Matthew Kelly says " GET BUSY LIVING".

Hope, Healing & Humor:Lessons Learned from Father Charlie Hudson

In 1968, Father Hudson met Peggy Coloney ( a parishioner of St. Helen) who was a nurse at Saint Elizabeth Hospital, Elizabeth, NJ. They both could see that the emotional and spiritual needs of the sick and dying were not being addressed. They took it upon themselves to do more; and in 1983, they founded the Center For Hope Hospice.  Fr. Hudson was also a beloved weekend associate at St. Helen for many years.

An evening dedicated to remembering and celebrating the life and the lessons learned from Father Charlie Hudson. Born in Jersey City, Father Hudson was a dynamic and well loved priest whose messages of love, peace, and hope were universally embraced and still resonate with us today.

We would like ALL, young and old, to experience Father Hudson's story and to be reminded of his Irish wit and wisdom.
