THANKS TO ALL...Many thanks to the middle schoolers who participated in our November service activity, sorting and bundling toiletries for our friends at Bridges, who distribute these care packages to homeless in the area and in NYC. It was a perfect way to end the Thanksgiving weekend. And another round of thanks to all the kids who attended and enjoyed the annual CIA Christmas party. The CIA party is a great kickoff to a joyous holiday season. Of course, none of these activities could happen without the enthusiasm and assistance of many volunteers, including members of the High School Youth Ministry and the many parents who contributed their time and their talents, including baking! It’s been a busy few weeks for the CIA, and I am looking forward to more activities and events in the new year.

Calling All Middle School Religious Education Classes:  We need lots of help at our Middle School Masses with the collection, the presentation of the gifts and lectoring.  I am looking for classes to sign up for one of our upcoming masses.  It is great to come together as a class and celebrate the Mass.  Please contact me directly if members of a class are interested in being a critical part of this program.

The CIA (Catholics in Action) is a spirited group for middle-school students to have fun, serve others, and connect with their Catholic faith. This youth ministry is sponsored by St. Helen’s Catholic parish in Westfield, New Jersey. All parishioners in grades 6-8 are welcome. Many events are open to friends, too.

Our primary purpose is to grow in a relationship with Jesus and the Catholic church through prayer, service and fellowship.   While doing this, the CIA serves the church and the local community.  In addition, we have a good time and enjoy God’s great gift of life.

The full calendar of activities offer the three elements: Spiritual, Social and Service. Here is a quick sample:

  • Spiritual: Special Middle School Masses each month, Retreat days, Stations of the Cross…
  • Social: Christmas Party, Video Gamefest, Ski Trip, Pizza and Movie Nights, Paintball and more…
  • Service: Special Olympics, sandwich making, letter writing to soldiers, visits to the Nursing Home…
